Briefing Paper on the Oral History Elements of the Stormont House Agreement

The document is a briefing paper by The Stories Network on the oral history elements of the Stormont House Agreement, focusing on paragraphs 22-25. It discusses the importance of archiving existing stories, gathering new stories, and sharing these narratives to create a comprehensive Oral History Archive related to the conflict in Northern Ireland. The paper emphasizes ethical principles, legal protection, diversity, and trust in storytelling. It also highlights the need for long-term preservation, informed consent, and the inclusion of diverse voices. The document outlines the role of existing projects, the importance of avoiding duplication, and the need for creative procurement processes. It stresses the significance of sharing stories for education, peacebuilding, and reconciliation, and calls for careful consideration in the appointment of academics and the use of the archive. The paper concludes with a focus on maintaining political independence and trust in the archive’s operations.
